In 1949, Garuda Indonesia made its maiden voyage from Jakarta to Yogykarta. Today the airline is considered to be a leader within the Asian aviation industry and now flies to destinations throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Australia.

With Asia as its notable strength, the airline has a major hub at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and a secondary hub in Denpasar (Bali) at Ngurah Rai International Airport.

As a member of Skyteam, Garuda provides seamless connections with 19 other airlines around the world. The alliance allows frequent flyer members of GarudaMiles the ability to earn and spend frequent flyer points on Garuda and each of the Skyteam airlines. Membership in the program is free and offers a number of benefits to elite members, including upgrades, an increased baggage allowance and lounge access.
